To celebrate EU Code Week 2026, taking place from 10 to 25 October, pupils from Grades 1, 2 and 3 of our school participated in two creative autumn-themed coding activities.
EU Code Week is a European initiative that aims to introduce children to coding and computational thinking through fun, playful and creative activities.
The activities were organised as part of our English lessons, promoting a cross-curricular approach to learning. By combining English with Mathematics, Art and Coding, pupils had the opportunity to expand their vocabulary and use English in a meaningful, creative and engaging way. At the same time, they developed computational thinking, observation, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills, discovering how learning becomes more exciting when different subjects are connected.
"The Leaf Thief – An Autumn Adventure"
In the first activity, our young learners explored Pixel Art, creating autumn-themed pictures on a grid by following specific instructions and colour patterns. Through playful learning, they practised pattern recognition, sequencing and spatial awareness while developing essential computational thinking skills.
Activity 2: "Autumn Coding" – Maths and Colour Coding
In the second activity, pupils combined Mathematics with Colour Coding. By solving simple addition and subtraction problems, they matched their answers to specific colours and coloured the corresponding sections to reveal autumn-themed pictures. Through this enjoyable process, they strengthened their mathematical skills, concentration and logical thinking while discovering basic coding principles.
